My first U2 show. I was behind the stage, way up on top. The clearest memory is of the lights going out all over the arena, then above the stage. The roar from the crowd is deafening (my ears rang for two days). Larry, Adam, and Edge take up their positions on stage. Bono runs onto the stage, behind Larry, then to his microphone. There is near total darkness, only the tip of Bono’s cigarette is visible. He launches into “I could have lost you” before Edge lets loose with the opening riff of Zoo Station. After years of waiting and dreaming, my first U2 concert had begun.
