Back in June of 2004 I visited the mysterious island of Iceland with Ayaz, Kim, and Laura (and a group of her friends from Boston). The trip was titled “For the Birds” and birds there were, millions of them. Our trip was based out of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, with a series of day trips: out along the Golden Circle, to the Westmann Island in the south, and up to Iceland second largest city,Akureyri, in the north with an additional plane flight up to the Arctic Circle and the little island of Grimsey where we encountered many little Puffins.
Iceland is a truly magical place and one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. A wonder for landscape photography with mountains, volcanos, geysers, hot springs, and the slow expanding contential divide between Europe and North America. Our trip was just weeks before the Summer Solstice. Sunset was shortly before midnight and “night” was a brief few hours where the Sun dipped just below the horizon.

The doorbell rang, and the lady of the house discovered a workman, complete with tool chest, on the front porch.
“Madam,” he announced, “I’m the piano tuner.”
The lady exclaimed, “Why, I didn’t send for a piano tuner.”
The man replied, “I know, but your neighbors did.”

I’ve been going back through the photos on my hard drive, looking for ones that fell through the cracks. Today’s additions are from several different trips to Hempstead Harbor in recent years. A few from the 4th of July a few years back, and some fall color photos.

Usually about once a week I run into the San Francisco SPCA at lunch time, during one of their roving pet tables. Lately they’ve had lots of cute kittens. I asked if there were still some to choose from was told “kitten season just hasn’t stopped this year, we had to expand our kitten area to hold them all!” For some time now Sara and I have been talking about adopting kittens, or one kitten and a bunny. We may finally make it there this weekend.

This past weekend I traveled out to Bishop and June Lake in the Eastern Sierra for the annual fall color fun. It’s getting a bit late in the season but there was still fall color action left. I did some time lapse videos too, my favorite is Bishop at Night shot with the 20d in the passenger seat (2.5 second exposures at f/16 and iso 100).

A cowboy walks up to his cowboy friends with a dachshund on a leash. “What’s with the dog?” asks one cowboy. “Well,” says the first cowboy, “I finally gave in to that voice in my head saying ‘get a long little doggie’.”
