The Great American Drive
Day 9 - Grand Teton National Park to Green River, Utah
October 10th 1999

Up early to see the sunrise on the Tetons and finally spotted a moose while hiking the trails. Back down to Jackson Hole, zipped in and out of Idaho, into northern Utah and down I-15 to pick up my good friend Steven Henry at Salt Lake City Airport.

Our goal was to get to the town of Green River, Utah for the night. The sun went long before Green River and my driving skills and slight night blindness was scaring Steven so we pulled over for a rest and to look at the stars. A local service station owner came over to see what we were looking at and lent us his army surplus night vision binoculars. While viewing more stars then you could ever see with regular binoculars he told us stories of late night coyote hunting with his night vision scope, and how he was a local cattle rancher. He recommended a stop at Dead Horse Point State Park on the way to Canyonlands tomorrow.

“It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'as pretty as an airport' exist.”
